About the Club
Over four decades of celebrating the Welsh Terrier in the Northeastern United States.
The name Glyndwr
The name is a combination of two Welsh words: GLYN (a narrow valley or glen) and DWFR (water). Together they evoke the rugged, water-carved landscape of Wales — the homeland of our beloved breed. The name also honours Owain Glyndŵr, the last native Prince of Wales, a symbol of Welsh pride and spirit.
Our history
A club built on passion
The Glyndwr Welsh Terrier Club was founded in January 1977 by a small group of dedicated Welsh Terrier enthusiasts in the Northeastern United States. From the beginning, the club's mission was simple: to bring together people who share a deep love for this spirited, intelligent breed.
In its early years the club focused on building a community — hosting informal gatherings, sharing knowledge about the breed, and supporting members who were new to Welsh Terriers. The quarterly newsletter, the Glyndwr Welsh Times, became a beloved fixture, connecting members across New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York.
Over the decades the club grew steadily, attracting both show enthusiasts and companion dog owners. Annual specialty shows, picnics, and grooming workshops became highlights of the calendar, drawing members from across the region.
Today
The club today
Today the Glyndwr Welsh Terrier Club remains a vibrant, welcoming community for anyone who loves the Welsh Terrier. Membership is open to all — whether you show your dog, work them in the field, or simply enjoy their company at home.
We continue to publish the Glyndwr Welsh Times, host social events throughout the year, and support Welsh Terrier rescue efforts through our partnership with WTCares and other organisations. Our members range from first-time Welsh Terrier owners to seasoned handlers with decades of experience.
Club activities
What we do
Social gatherings
Informal get-togethers throughout the year where members and their dogs can meet, share stories, and enjoy each other's company. All dogs welcome on leash.
Annual specialty show
Our flagship event — a conformation show dedicated entirely to the Welsh Terrier, drawing exhibitors and spectators from across the region.
Grooming workshops
Hands-on sessions led by experienced groomers covering the traditional hand-stripping technique and general coat care for the Welsh Terrier.
Quarterly newsletter
The Glyndwr Welsh Times is published four times a year and features member news, breed articles, grooming tips, show results, and club announcements.
Rescue support
We work closely with WTCares and other Welsh Terrier rescue organisations to help rehome dogs in need and support members who adopt rescue dogs.
Member network
A knowledgeable community of experienced owners ready to answer questions about health, training, grooming, showing, and everything else Welsh Terrier.
